Norfolk Lavender

Queen Elizabeth I loved lavender and used it to treat her frequent migraines and as a perfume. She encouraged the development of lavender farms and soon it was used in perfumed soaps, pot pourris and water for washing.

Queen Victoria was also an enthusiastic user of lavender and it became fahionable amongst the ladies of the era. Fresh lavender was dried and put in muslin bags to be used in linen cupboads, or worn by young women in the hope of attracting a suitor.

English lavender needs the correct growing conditions, which is why it is grown successfully in Norfolk, Suffolk and Kent. Our selection of lavender is farmed and distilled in the historic village of Heacham in Norfolk.
