Flower Fairies

Cicely Mary Barker 1895 - 1973

Cicely Mary Barker was born on 28 June 1895 in Croydon, England. A poorly child, she was educated at home and spent hours drawing flowers and fairies from her imagination. After her father's death in 1912, her poetry and illustrations were sold to help support her family. 

It was her "Flower Fairies" books which brought Cicely Mary Barker her greatest acclaim. Despite her  success, Cicely remained a quiet and modest person and went on to teach at the Croydon School of Art.

Cicely Mary Barker died in Sussex on 16 February 1973.
